1,53,000 Millionaires in India!

24 Friday Jun 2011

There is no limit to the increase in millionaires in India. The number was 1,26,700 in 2009 which has increased to 1,53,000 in 2010 according to the World Wealth Report released by Capgemini and Merrill Lynch Wealth Management. According to this each day in 2010 has increase of about 72 new millionaires in India. According to the business circles this growth is due to the strong performance of all asset classes and modest recovery of economy.
BUt what about the poor people becoming poorer by minute? There will be no mention about them. For each new millionaire, thousands of poor and lowest strata people are increasing. The neo-liberal policy benefits only about 5% of the higher strata and nobody else. But the ruling class in the country are satisfied with the growth of millionaires and billionaires.

Air India Market Share dips to Fifth position

24 Friday Jun 2011

The market share of Air India, the PSU air lines, has slipped to the fifth position behind Jet, Kingfischer, Indigo and Spice Jet. Till May, 2011, Air India was in the fourth position. The anti-PSU policy of the government, high level corruption and mismanagement has brought the Indian Carrier to this unviable situation.

The workers have now to take initiative and make the government and management to support it so that Air India can rise to its earlier glory.

Ban Ki-moon re-elected as UN Secretary General

23 Thursday Jun 2011

The present Secretary General Ban Ki-moon was unanimously reelected Secretary General of the United Nations in its meeting on 22nd JUne 2011. There was no opposition.
After election, Ban Ki-moon thanked the General Assembly and stated: ” To lead, we must deliver the results… We need results that people can see and touch, results that change lives, make a differnce”.

The statement is OK. BUt whether the UN has been doing these above things in the recent past? Has it been saving the lives of thousands of people who were killed in Iraq, Afghanistan and recently in Libya? Has it been able to stop the illegal US blockade of Cuba for the lasy many decades?
Has the UN been able to uphold and defend the human values that is endorsed in the UN Charter holding which the Secretary General has taken the oath?

Women’s Reservation Bill – Will it be ever passed ?

23 Thursday Jun 2011

The hypocrisy of certain political parties have again come to the fore. Now, it is with regrd to the Women’s Bill that is going to be taken in the next session of the Lok Sabha.
The Rajya Sabha has already passed the Women’s Reservation BIll, but after much hangama including eviction of some unruly members from the session. Now it should be passed by the Lok Sabha.
The meeting called by the Speaker, Lok Sabha, Meira Kumar to find out a solution was boycotted by some of the parties. The Left, BJP, Trinamool, DMK, AIADMK etc. attended. But however some of the parties raised the difficulty in implementation if it is passed. The Left Parties is strongly supporting the Bill.
Will the bill be ever passed? There should be a strong movement outside the Parliament also.

India corruption

Now the former Chief Justice of the Supreme court is under the scanner of CBDT. The Home Ministry has asked CBDT to probe in to the allegations that K.G.Balakrishnan, former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, has amassed wealth disprportionate to his income. It is also alleged that his family members also have amassed wealth during the period he was the Chief Justice of the country.
What a sorry state of affairs! The Chief Justice of the nation who is to uphold justice and truth is being enquired for corruption?
