Contract Workers on agitation- Support them

06 Wednesday Apr 2011

Casual and contract workers in many circles/divisions of BSNL are on agitation for implementation of minimum wage, social security measures like EPF, Insurance etc. Although the BSNL corporate office has issued clear instructions, the workers are not getting the full wages. EPF, Insurance premium are not deducted, identity cards are not given etc.

In Assam, FIR has been registered against contract workers for going on struggle by filing false cases by the contractor-management conspiracy. Many contract workers denied employment after Corporate office is insisting to pay minum wage.

Leaders of the BSNLEU at Circle and SSA levels should give all support and help to the just struggle of these workers who are being exploited and are denied even what is provided as per rules and laws of this country.

The 16th Congress (Conference) of the World Federation of Trade Unions is being held at Athens (Greece ) from 6th to 10th April 2011. WFTU is one of the biggest trade union confederation with large number of trade unions affiliated to it all over the world. Its progressive outlook and sustained struggles and interventions against the capitalist system and for improving the conditions of the workers have been appreciated. The last Congress was held at Havana (Cuba) which was participated by me, where I could get discuss the problems of telecom workers from various countries.

Com.P.Abhimanyu, General Secretary, BSNLEU is participating in this Congress and had already reached Athens.

I wish the Congress all success and hope that it will discuss all important issues facing the workers and will take appropriate decisions.

BT Ranadive, comrade Ranadive

I pay my respectful homage to the memory of the great militant working class leader Comrade B.T.Ranadive, founder President of CITU, on his 21st death anniversary. Com. BTR was one of the brilliant theoretician as well as a mass leader of the toiling masses who analysed each and every situation critically and stood like a rock against all attacks from the ruling classes. He was a member of the Politburo of the CPI(M) since its formation in 1964. He died on 6th April 1990.

We will always get inspiration from the memory of Comrade BTR to continue our work and march forward to protect the interests of the working class.

2G scam – Corporate czars in dock

2G scam, India corruption

Almost all the private big business in telecom sector are in dock in the 2G scam. If anybody is not involved in the 2G scam, they are already involved in the earlier irregularities, violation of rules and regulations or getting undue advantage from the government. The corporate czars, Tata, Ambani and heads of almost all private telcos have already been summoned and examined by the CBI, PAC and other inquiry agencies. They may be called by the Joint Parliament Committee also.

The unholy nexus between the corporate houses, top politicians, bureaucrats, lobbyists, media persons – those who are powerful and rich are involved in looting the assets of the country. It has come to such an extent that during the last one year alone scams after scams involving lakhs and lakhs of crores have surfaced. The Manmohan Singh government has lost all authority to speak about ethics, morals, integrity and governance.

The liberalisation, privatisation and globalisation initiated by the Government since 1991 have its worse experience in the telecom sector, which is stated to be the biggest growing sector. The corruption, favouritism and irregularity all are also in the highest in telecom. But it is not alone. Even in the strategic and highly security area of defence and space organisation the corruption and favouritism are continuously happening as is seen in the Antrix-Devas agreement as also the Adarsh scam.

A clean up of the whole system is necessary. First of all, the crony capitalism being followed by the government has to be stopped forthwith. The people of this country has to fight unitedly for that.

It was indeed a Historic Day for Kerala State. 54 years back on this day, 5th April 1957, the first Communist Ministry in India and In Kerala was formed under the leadership of E.M.S.Namboodiripad. In the first elections held in the Kerala state, the Communist Party won and the ministry was formed.

This Ministry implemented Land Reforms ,progressive changes in the education system and many other important landmark decisions.

The Congress Government at the centre could not tolerate a Communist Ministry and tried to topple it with defection etc. but could not succeed. At last it imposed the Article 356 and dismissed this Communist Ministry.

Later a lot of ministries all over India which were not liked by the government at the centre were dismissed under Article 356.
